I.V. technicians work in many different areas in health care including out patient surgical clinics, dentistry and oral surgery offices, research facilities, emergency rooms, and veterinary clinics. IV training is crucial as phlebotomists, medical assistants, nurses and respiratory therapists all need to know how to start an I.V. In this three day course, students learn the best techniques for starting an I.V. and learn by practicing on real people – participating in at least 5 I.V. placements (usually many more). Students also learn about equipment, types of fluids, administered drip rates, venous structures within the arm and hand, routes of administration, medication administration, complications MLT associated with I.V. therapy, I.V. regulations and more.
