No. But, it is helpful to have some basic training in phlebotomy - especially if you plan to become a nurse, medical assistant, respiratory therapist or if you want to work in a clinic or hospital as an aide.
Cole Holland Training Center offers day, evenings and weekend classes to fit most every schedule. The day classes are two weeks and the evening classes are three weeks. Weekend classes are usually 4-5 weeks depending on how many hours students attend each day. Check out the Program Calendar for more specific information. Once a program is successfully completed, the student still needs another 3-6 weeks to complete testing and to get verification of successfully passing each exam.
Our curriculum is based on the recommended curriculum and the State Candidate Handbook from the Utah Nurse Assistant Registry. You will be taught all the information and skills you will need to know to successfully pass the state written and skill exams.
Classes range in size from 10-30 students, allowing classroom discussion, hands on participation and personalized attention from the instructor.
We accept cash, checks and credit cards. We are not able to offer financing. The $75 enrollment fee must be paid before class begins and the balance of $325 must be paid on the first day of class. Exceptions are rare. Please call the school for more information.
We have several qualified instructors, all of them nurses, with years of experience in the health care industry. You can be assured you will receive a quality education from an experienced instructor. Most of our instructors are also currently employed in the field of nursing - not just teaching school, so they bring you the most current information and practical advice.
The cost is $295.This includes a $95.00 non-refundable deposit to register for the class (you have a three day 'cooling off' period, in which you can decide to withdraw from school and receive a full refund - after three days, your enrollment fee is non-refundable). The balance is due on the first day of class. The fee covers all instruction, the clinical supervision, the use of a textbook, a workbook to keep to help you study for the state exams, other training materials, hands on instruction, and practice exams. (Basic Life Support CPR is offered for $40 and provided by the Utah Emergency Medical Training Council - you may register online at www.uemtc.org). Tuition does not cover the $70 state testing fees.
Once you have completed all your course and clinical hours, you will be given a certificate of completion and a state testing voucher application which you will use to register for a state testing voucher and instructions on where and how to test. More information regarding times and places for the exam will be covered in the class.
If you decide not to attend the CNA class at all, your $75.00 deposit is non-refundable, unless you notify the school within three business days that you have decided not to attend school.
This notification must be in writing or in person (you may fax your notification to 801.531.1949, or come into the school – but telephone or email correspondence is not acceptable), in which case your deposit will be refunded to you. If you drop out of the course before the first day of class, you may apply your application fee to a subsequent course for an additional fee of $50.00, but you must take a class within six-months. You will then have to pay the additional $300.00 on the first day of the new class.
Once you begin classes, you are not eligible for any refund. Please plan your schedule carefully; ensuring you can meet the demands of the class schedule and clinical hours.
In order to drop out of the course at any time, you must do so in writing (by snail mail or fax 801.531.1949) or in person. Phone calls, emails, or other types of communication are not acceptable to successfully drop out of the program. If you pay the fee and do not drop out in writing or in person, your fee is forfeited.
Even with the current downturn in the economy jobs are available. Cole Holland Training Center assists students in finding work - and offers helpful information on how to find a job. We also provide students with letters of recommendation and are often contacted directly by employers seeking CNAs for immediate work. After you receive your certification contact the main office for assistance.
Attendance is mandatory - it is absolutely mandatory. If you have to miss a class, you will need to contact the instructor to make up the missed material, although this is not always possible. Missing more than one class is grounds for expulsion from the class with no refund of your fees. Please make sure you can make all classes. You must notify the instructor of each class you miss BEFORE class - failure to notify the instructor will result in expulsion and forfeiture of all fees. We hold a space in the class for YOU - your failure to attend prevents us from giving that seat to another student.
You can make up clinical hours the next time around, but there is a $50.00 fee to do so. Once you sign up for clinical hours, you must attend the entire time for credit towards your certification. The same is true for CPR - if you sign up - you must attend. Failure to attend the CPR training will result in forfeiture of the $25.00 fee. Please be responsible. Rare exceptions are made - but the payment of the $50.00 is not likely to be waived.
There are two parts to the exam, a written portion which costs $35.00 and a skills exam which also costs $35.00.
Yes. If you fail the test, you can attend classes again for free anytime but this does not include new books or clinicals. You will need to re-enroll in the program.
Probably. Most nursing programs require that you become a CNA. Cole Holland Training Center is a good choice. You finish quickly and it is less expensive than many courses offered in the valley.
We have a reputation for not only providing adequate training but also in caring about and supporting our students in and out of class. We offer job placement assistance and have a computer lab that allows students to practice online exams similar to the UNAR written test (Salt Lake location only). With four locations (we own AAA CNA Training Centers) in Clearfield, Orem, Salt Lake City and Murray and with flexible schedules with day, evening and weekend classes, students are sure to find a class that is conveniently located.
Yes. Unfortunately, if you are not proficient in English the course may prove too difficult - all of our courses are fast paced and you need to be able to understand complex medical terminology. Although we attempt to provide each student with the aides, skills, methods, training and resources to pass their state exams and to learn how to become productive CNA's - we cannot make up for a lack of English proficiency. We suggest you take some English classes BEFORE taking our CNA class.
Yes. It is important for students to have access to the textbook and workbook during the course and will be a valuable resource after you become a CNA. Avoid schools that "share" textbooks, or let you "use" them in class.
YES! Cole Holland Training Center is only one of a few courses in Utah that is certified. With a 48 hour class and an optional 40 hour externship you will have the chance to complete hundreds of live draws and to gain the experience and confidence you need to find the right job. Avoid schools that offer skimpy six hour classes with a minimal chance to really learn to draw blood - they are a waste of your time and money. If you want to learn phlebotomy take a real course.
The total for the course is $495 and includes everything except the optional national certification exam ($105). You will need to send us a non-refundable deposit of $100.00 at least three days before classes begin in order to hold your seat with the balance due of $395 on the first day of class. If this is an issue, please call the school, sometimes we can make payment arrangements.
If you decide not to attend the phlebotomy course that you registered for, your deposit is non-refundable, unless you notify the school within three business days that you have decided not to attend school.
You will then have to pay the additional tuition on the first day of the new class.
Once you begin classes, you are not eligible for any refund. Please plan your schedule carefully; ensuring you can meet the demands of the class schedule. If you miss the first day of class, you will be terminated from the class and you will forfeit all your fees. With your payment we hold your space, often turning away other students so attendance is important. After the first day of class, students may miss ONE class with approval from the instructor. If you miss more than ONE class, you WILL be expelled from the program and your fees forfeited.
Yes. Our textbook and workbook are great resources for you even after you graduate.
Despite the lack of regulation about who can teach a phlebotomy course, ALL of our instructors are certified phlebotomists with years of experience. Just because Utah allows anyone to teach a class doesn't mean they should. Schools that have nurses with little real phlebotomy education teaching are ... well, think about it. If you want to learn a new skill, learn it from an expert. Right?
If you miss a class, you miss the class. There are no make up classes available. However, you can always repeat the course (minus draws and sticks) anytime you want for free.
Yep. There are plenty of jobs in clinics, hospitals, plasma centers, and anywhere else blood is drawn for tests etc. Not only does this course prepare you to work as a phlebotomist, but it is also a great course for aides, Medical Assistants and people wanting to go to nursing school or to become a respiratory therapist.
Besides offering the longest, most comprehensive course in Utah for the same money or LESS, we also sponsor your externship which is invaluable for those really wanting to learn the art and science of phlebotomy. Cole Holland Training Center cares about the success of our students - and it shows.
