Human Anatomy Cadaver Workshop

Human Anatomy Cadaver Workshop

Cole Holland College and the Institute of Human Anatomy offer participants engaged in or seeking a career in health care such as a Certified Nurse Assisting, Nursing, Nurse Practitioner, Respiratory, Physical, Speech or Occupational Therapy, Emergency Medical Services and Medical Assisting, a unique educational experience. The human body is fascinating and students and health care providers need to know as much about the body as possible in order to effectively treat disease or heal injuries. The Institute of Human Anatomy offers an opportunity for Cole Holland College workshop participants to study human anatomy through gross examination in a state-of-the-art laboratory.  There is no better way to understand the complexity of the human body than to actually see the inner workings yourself. Usually this opportunity is limited to medical school students or forensic science majors. With Cole Holland College’s unique partnership with the Institute of Human Anatomy this chance is available to more health care providers and students than ever before. This opportunity is limited however – and we expect classes to fill quickly. We especially encourage former students to take advantage of this new opportunity. Call for details. We have custom designed a course specifically for Cole Holland College students, former students, and other health care providers that provides a glimpse into the inner workings of the body and its many parts including the organs, respiratory system, the digestive system, the muscular system, the reproductive system, the bones, joints, ligaments and more. Space is limited and the entire workshop fee is $125 which must be paid prior to the class in order to save your seat.

For more information, call us at 801.759.5164.   Phlebotomist Phlebotomists are individuals who are trained in drawing blood and analyzing them for the detection, diagnosis and treatment of diseases. They perform a series of complex chemical, biological, microscopic and bacteriological tests on patients and provide an appropriate diagnosis. These tests are done to detect the presence of microorganisms like bacteria, viruses, fungi etc. Some of them monitor programs to ensure the accuracy of the results performed and also supervise clinical laboratory technicians. For more information on becoming a phlebotomist contact Brian Treu at Phlebotomy Training Specialists at 1.888.531.8378 or find more information at www.drawblood.net.   Certified Nurse Assistant The Certified Nursing Assistant is a person who aids in the daily care of those needing nursing care. Think there’s nothing to the job? Think again. One of the first things many nurses say they learned is that nursing isn’t about dispensing medicines, giving shots or even taking orders from the doctor. It’s all about learning to listen to your patients. The CNA training takes that to a very basic level and the job of the CNA is often vital to the effective medical treatment of other health care professionals. For example, the CNA who spends the most time with a nursing home patient may be the first to notice a change in that person’s attitude that reflects a serious medical condition or a reaction to a change in their drug regimen. And while some people are simply observant enough to notice those kinds of things, learning what to do with the information is a vital part of the training for the Certified Nursing Assistant. For more information on CNA training contact AAA CNA Training Centers at 801.990.9333 or at www.utahcnacenters.com. With four locations and flexible day, evening and weekend classes this is the place to get your training! For more information on working as a CNA contact Homewatch CareGivers at 801-746-1080 or find them on the web www.homewatchcaregivers.com/salt-lake-city.  Patient Care Coordinator A Patient Care Coordinator is an important part of a home health or hospice team. This person is responsible for making sure the transition from the hospital or facility to home happens smoothly and without missing important elements like prescriptions, wheelchairs or walkers, and making sure the skilled services the patient needs in the home are coordinated timely. A good agency, has such a person on staff. Canyon Home Care and Hospice is such a company - they care so much about their patients they want to make sure this delicate and vulnerable time is well managed down the last detail. Patient Care Coordinators typically have a health care background in nursing, PT or pharmacy and they understand home care and hospice and can answer questions for patients and family members and cut through all the red-tape in the health care system. For more information on Home Care or Hospice please contact Canyon Home Care and Hospice at 801.4875.6166 or find them on the web at www.canyonhomecare.com.

Volunteer Corps

Volunteer Corps

Cole Holland College is an advocate for civic participation as a means to enhance professional and personal development. Participating with others in group activities in the health care field exposes the volunteer to new people, new ideas and sharpens the skill set, the mind, and the heart. As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to engage in learning exercises designed to test the emergency responsiveness of hospitals, ER rooms, clinics, helicopter response teams, emergency response vehicles, fire departments, skilled nursing facilities, home health agencies, pharmacies and other organizations associated with the health care delivery system. Living in the natural world any community is at risk from Mother Nature. Living in Utah along the fault line we are particularly vulnerable to a major life threatening earthquake. In order for any community to be prepared for any kind of natural disaster, attack, or emergency, health care delivery systems must “test” their plans, personnel, equipment, and cooperation among many diverse health care organizations. Our Volunteer Corps is a non-profit organization dedicated to recruiting actively engaged citizens to act as volunteers for such training missions conducted throughout the state by a myriad of health care and emergency response organizations. Joining the Corps is easy and free and you never have to participate in any activity unless you want to. But your help now could mean the difference between life and death in the face of a REAL emergency so we appreciate you helping out each time you can. To join, you must: Fill out an application with pertinent contact information Sign a confidentiality agreement Sign a human subject risk and release agreement Sign an injury, image and property release forms Agree to participate in at least one training exercise per year Like us on Facebook to receive important information about events, updates and announcements  Benefits of joining include: A sense of civic pride for helping out your community A Certificate of Appreciation and Participation each time you volunteer An addition to your resume An opportunity to meet other health care providers in the area A chance to associate with others who care about our community Invitations to classes, workshops, and other classes as well as attendance at free Cole Holland events at the school. For more information on the Cole Holland Volunteer Corps please call or meet with us.
